3 Dimentional Development Work

Here I have selected pages from my sketch book, this first image reflects some sketches i produced from observation my 3 dimensional shapes. I found it hard to illustrate the depthness of the same with the use of shading as I used tracing paper to create my 3 dimensional shapes which made it transparent.

With this image I Incorporated one of my 3D shapes, and made it into a design as shown here. I used mixed media here to create texture and to enable my 2D shape to appear 3 dimensional.

Below are a few images of my 3D shapes which I presented in my sketch book, along with a sample.

I wanted to ensure i was developing my ideas so here i imagined the geometric shape as a head piece, which i feel could work really well if i wanted to produce this shape in thick fabric, however i feel it would be hard to reflect the defined shapes as shown here.

I enjoy using a mix of media and i really like the way in which using oil pastels, pen and pencil below really worked well combined.

I have continued to develop me idea's here and to use illustrations to show my ideas.

Tights & Glue

For the next few images I am demonstrating our 'Tights & Glue' activity where we were developing our skills from the previous week. This consisted of using tight and fabric coated in glue placed round a chair. This allowed us to be free and to be able to experiment and really play with the materials we were using. I felt from the beginning of this activity, i felt that it wasn't going to be very successful but once our surreal shape was dry we experimented with it on a manikin. I was pleasantly surprised with the way in which this surreal shape really came together and transformed into such as exciting potential garment piece.

Here are images which suggest potential garment idea.......

The following two images are sketches of our potential garment ideas, I tried to use media in which would demonstrate the same effect that the fabric illustrated.

Military Jacket
This week were really getting to grips with the different shapes that make up a jacket and from deconstructing it, it was a great way to enable us to do this. We were really able to visualise the detail, shape and reasons for which it was made in this way.

My jacket consisted a Military style jacket produced in 1968, and from looking at it you can see that the way in which it is made really fits it purpose.

The buttons used in this design consist of non light reflecting buttons to ensure no light can be reflected, internal pockets to hold essentials.

Attached fabric at the base to enable the person to fasten the fabric user the crutch and attach to the front to ensure the jacket does not fall off during during running. All these details are fascinating and you can see that it is really meeting its purpose.

Here i am beginning to deconstruct my jacket and to really start to understand how certain detail are made for the jacket.

I thought I might experiment on a manikin to try and manipulate the way in which it could be seen on a person. With my deconstructed fabric I decided to create a hood and additionally turn the hood inside out to show the different colour tones within the jacket which I find interesting. To add this my other design below this image shows other possible design.

After i had experimented with the jacket I full deconstructed it and placed the individual shapes which made up the jacket on a chair to produce a chair cover as such, very much like the 'Tights & Glue' activity however we were not adding glue to to fabric. In doing this allowed us to be free and not put too much thought into the process and to really play with shapes for us to gain a very surreal structure.

These next few images illustrate my what my chair cover on the manikin, once again it was really nice to see how surprisingly well it instantly seemed to fit. I love the originality of it and the way in which their was no right or wrong way of producing this one off piece.

This design below is one of my favourites as i feel everything seems to sit in the right place, but in a very creative and innovative way. All the geometric shapes within the design are visible which makes the design very exciting and original.
